Educational Activity: Cast the Film
Overview:
Many times, if a film for a novel has yet to be made, a good practice to help with visualization is to cast the film for yourself. However, when a film does get made, fans may sometimes disagree with the casting choices. In either case, allowing the students to cast their own actors/actresses for these memorable characters makes for good engagement with the content. Have students pick a specific actor for a major role in the film, then have them collect textual evidence from the book to support their casting decision. This will help assess reading comprehension, as well as aiding students in their visualization of the novel.
